Why we built this

Choosing self-hosted software shouldn't require hours of research across Reddit threads, GitHub issues, and outdated blog posts. We built unsubbed.co to be the single source of truth for anyone evaluating open-source alternatives to SaaS tools.

How we review

Every tool on this site has been installed, configured, and tested by our team. We evaluate based on:

• User experience — Is it actually pleasant to use daily?
• Deployment ease — Can you get it running in under 30 minutes?
• Feature completeness — Does it cover real-world workflows?
• Active development — Is the project alive and maintained?
• Community — Can you get help when you need it?
• Total cost of ownership — What does it actually cost to run?

Our perspective

We're not anti-SaaS. Some tools are better as managed services. But many businesses overpay for software they could self-host at a fraction of the cost, with better privacy and more control.

Our comparisons show you both sides honestly. Sometimes the SaaS option is better — and we'll tell you that.
