Why Self-Host Your No-Code Platform?
Airtable charges $24/user/month for its Business plan, Retool runs $10-50/user/month, and Power Apps costs $20/user/month. These platforms store your application data, business logic, and user interfaces on their servers — and migrating away is extremely difficult because each platform uses proprietary formats and APIs. When Airtable changes its pricing (as it has repeatedly), you either pay the increase or face the painful process of rebuilding your applications elsewhere. Self-hosted no-code platforms eliminate both the per-user costs and the vendor lock-in.
NocoDB turns any SQL database into a smart spreadsheet with views, forms, galleries, and API access — a direct Airtable replacement that works on top of your existing MySQL, PostgreSQL, or SQLite database without migrating your data. Appsmith provides a drag-and-drop builder for connecting to databases, APIs, and SaaS tools with JavaScript for custom logic. ToolJet offers a similar application builder with pre-built connectors for common databases and APIs. Budibase combines a built-in database with an app builder and automation engine. Teable and Baserow provide Airtable-like interfaces with collaboration features and API access.
For more structured application building, Grist provides a spreadsheet-database hybrid with Python formulas and access control rules. Mathesar offers a database interface for PostgreSQL that non-technical users can work with directly. Saltcorn provides a full no-code application builder with pages, views, and workflow automation. Lowcoder delivers a React-based low-code platform with a visual builder and component library. The key advantage across all these tools is that your data stays in standard database formats you own. There is no proprietary data format, no API rate limits on accessing your own data, and no per-seat cost that penalizes you for letting more team members access the tools they need.
